GitHub open-sources Spec Kit
GitHub released Spec Kit, an open-source toolkit that makes the specification the source of truth for AI coding agents.
GitHub announced Spec Kit, an MIT-licensed toolkit of templates, a command-line tool and prompts for spec-driven development. Work starts from a specification, moves to a technical plan, then to small testable tasks that an AI agent implements. It works with several AI coding tools rather than just one.
Why it matters for structured intent: Spec Kit put the idea that “the spec is the source of truth” into the hands of a very large developer audience. Its specifications are living Markdown documents. Structured intent asks the next question: how to make them machine-checkable, and how to record how strongly each implementation keeps each promise.
