AWS launches Kiro, a spec-driven development environment
AWS previewed Kiro, an AI coding environment that writes requirements, a design and a task list before it writes code.
AWS introduced Kiro in public preview as an AI-powered development environment built around spec-driven development. Before generating code, Kiro produces requirements, a design document and a task list, and keeps them in the project as the reference the agent works from.
Why it matters for structured intent: Kiro was one of the first major products to treat the specification, rather than the prompt, as the thing an AI coding agent works against. Its specs are mostly prose documents for new code, which leaves room for the parts structured intent adds, such as origins, evidence and lifting from existing systems.
